International Day for Tolerance

World Tolerance Day 2023 What is Tolerance? Tolerance is the ability to accept and respect the opinions, beliefs, traditions, and practices of others, even when we disagree with them. It is a fundamental value in any pluralistic and democratic society, since it allows peaceful coexistence between people of different origins, cultures, religions and sexual orientations. Tolerance does not mean that we should give up our own beliefs or values, but that we should be aware that others also have the right to have theirs. In addition, tolerance does not mean being indifferent to injustice or discrimination, but that we must fight against them with respect and solidarity towards the people affected. When is World Tolerance Day? World Tolerance Day is celebrated on November 16, the date chosen to commemorate the approval of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations Organization in 1948. The objective of this commemoration is to remember the importance of tolerance in the construction of a just and peaceful society. Around the world, World Tolerance Day is celebrated with events and activities that promote dialogue and understanding between people of different backgrounds and cultures. These events include lectures, debates, competitions, exhibitions, and award ceremonies. It is important that we all strive to promote tolerance in our daily lives, be it in our family, our friends, our neighbors, our co-workers, at school, at university, in our communities, etc. We must be aware that intolerance and prejudice are a source of violence and suffering, and we must work together to overcome them. In short, tolerance is a fundamental value for building a just and peaceful society, and World Tolerance Day is an opportunity to remember its importance and to promote dialogue and understanding between people of different origins and cultures. We all can and must contribute to promoting tolerance in our daily lives, and work together to overcome intolerance and prejudice.
